Company Profile

Marine Training Academy (MTA), founded by Dr. S. G. Koli, began its journey on 23rd April 1993 under the name Marine Medical Academy (MMA). The academy was established with a clear vision - to provide professional First Aid training to seafarers and help them deliver effective medical assistance during onboard emergencies, thereby contributing towards safer operations at sea and reducing maritime casualties.
With the evolving regulations introduced by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the mandatory training requirements under the STCW Convention 1978, as amended, the academy expanded its scope of maritime education in January 1998 by introducing additional maritime training programs for the seafaring community.
Over the years, the academy has continued to strengthen its commitment towards quality maritime education and professional seafarer development. All courses conducted at the academy are aligned with the requirements of the STCW Convention 1978, as amended, and are approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India.
Training at MTA is delivered by qualified and experienced faculty members through a balanced approach of theoretical knowledge and practical learning. The academy is equipped with modern training aids, advanced demonstration equipment, audio-visual learning systems, presentation tools, and a comprehensive collection of maritime books, publications, and reference materials to support effective learning.
MTA believes in creating a disciplined and interactive learning environment where trainees and faculty members engage in meaningful knowledge sharing, practical understanding, and professional development. This student-focused approach helps foster confidence, responsibility, and career readiness among aspiring and working seafarers.
In January 2003, Marine Medical Academy was officially rechristened as Marine Training Academy (MTA), reflecting its expanded role and growing presence in maritime training and education.
